Attachment therapy is a therapeutic model that helps individuals work through trauma, neglect, and unmet needs that occurred in their childhood. Attachment theory suggests that as children we form a specific attachment to our caregivers, and often times this can affect the way we interact in social and romantic relationships. These early experiences that we had as children shape the adults we become. The goal of attachment therapy is to address the painful impact of negative early attachments and work to strengthen an individual’s capacity to have secure relationships. Attachment therapy gives space to acknowledge and address some of those deepest early wounds and better understand how they have shaped who we are today.
